Description
Carolyn Miller was a loving mother and devoted grandmother. When her aging parents became unable to function on their own, she became their caregiver. She also functioned as a twenty-four-hour nurse for her husband, Lou, after he had triple bypass surgery. Throughout their marriage of more than fifty years, during happy times and crises, she was the glue that held the family together. When Lou noticed that Carolyn was becoming forgetful and losing her grip on reality, he remembered the mental decline of his mother-in-law and had few illusions about what was happening to his wife. As her Alzheimer's progressed, he fell into the role of her primary caregiver. Eventually her needs became too great, and he was forced to place her in a skilled nursing facility, where she still lives today. Lou Miller wrote Carolyn's Story to record their family history for generations to come. His other goal was to increase public awareness of Alzheimer's disease. Above all, Carolyn's story is a tribute to all the other caring women who, like her, selflessly dedicate themselves to the welfare of others.
