Description
This is the true story of a boy's yearning for adventure in a world far away from the dreary, neat and tidy life of a small Welsh village in the years following WWII. Providence, through unexpected opportunities and happenchance, opens up his world and carries him through to catching the dragon.
This evocation of Welsh life in the Forties and Fifties reveals a cultured father's influence, a mother's love, a sister's death and a grandmother's oppressive presence. It is a story rich with major disasters and minor serendipity; the Depression of the Thirties, the Second World War, a local colliery disaster, a ship wreck, a sister's death, a bus ride through the Vosges mountains, a special junior school teacher, a trip to London with his father and a puzzle in a Sunday newspaper.
